Y2LD curriculum-map Summer Overview
We celebrated the end of assessment week with Golden Time in the sandpit. (RRS Article 31. All children have the right to relax and play.)
At our Open Day we made sandwiches to eat with our parents and carers. We researched our favourite sandwich fillings and tried to make healthy choices by adding salad ingredients. (RRS Article 24. All children have the right to nutritious food.)
Outdoor Learning Day
We have been reading the Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch in English. We had so much fun on Outdoor Learning Day in the mud kitchen making some disgusting sandwiches to trick the seagulls. We also made maps of Mr Grinling’s island using PE equipment and used directions to guide each other around the island.
Our topic for this term is ‘Explorers and Inventors.’
Y2 LD Spring 1 Curriculum Overview
(RRS Article 14: All children have a right to choose your own religion and beliefs.)
We took part in the Big Pedal event. We collected information each day on how many children in each class came to school on a bike or scooter. We made pictograms and block graphs in maths to show our results. At the end of the fortnight we went out onto the yard and paddock with our bikes and scooters. (RRS Article 29. All children have a right to use and develop talents and abilities.)
In DT we made explorer vehicles from junk materials.
In Science we explored a range of materials. We investigated waterproof materials.
In RE we found out about the Christian service of Baptism. We held our own service in the classroom.
(RRS Article 30. All children have a right to take part in their own culture and religion.)
We took part in the Rosa Run Around and raised money for Cancer Research.
We are becoming dinosaur experts in Year 2! Have a look at what we have been doing.
In Autumn 2 our Awesome Animals topic will focus on Dinosaurs. We will be reading stories from ‘ The Dinosaur that Pooped’ series by Tom Fletcher and Dougie Poynter, starting with the story ‘The Dinosaur that Pooped the Past.’ We will also be finding out about the life of Mary Anning.
Roald Dahl Art Work
We worked with the artists from Success North East on an art project to make Willy Wonka hats for the Roald Dahl Parade in Spennymoor. We wore our hats to the parade.
Take a look at how we made them.
We also had to learn a dance to perform at the Parade. Kay from Joanne Banks Dance School came into school to help us with the performance. Our favourite part was Fizz Pop Whizz Bang.
In Year 2 we have been trained as Mini Buds. We worked in groups at role play activities, sang songs and thought of sensible games to play with people at playtimes. Look out for us in the playground with our red buddy hats on!
In Miss Davison’s class we like to learn outdoors. Here we are in maths.
This term our topic is “Awesome Animals.” In Autumn 1 we will be reading the Roald Dahl story “The Enormous Crocodile.” See our curriculum map below for what we will be doing.
In Summer 2 we had transition days each Friday afternoon and went to work with Miss Davison in our new classroom . We read the story of “The Snail and the Whale” by Julia Donaldson. We created art work to match the story and went outside to look for snails and minibeasts. We found lots of snails and woodlice.
